Linda Vista Planning Committee
May 22, 2000
Meeting was called to order by the Board Chair, Rob Spahitz.

- Pledge of Allegiance:
- Presentation of Colors & Pledge of Allegiance was by Kearny High School Junior ROTC Color Guard unit led by Sgt. Jerry Ingram
- Public Comment:
- Many concerned residents were present to voice their feelings about the JPI (Ulric St./Friars Road) project of 170 apartments. Tony Kempton tried to satisfy the questions of the residents. There were a lot of exchanges of words. Refer to our recording of the meeting for more details. Fashion Valley / City Scene, the most impacted community of this project, was also being discussed among the Board Memebers and with the residents that were present. Chair reminded the meeting that the City Planner Book is available for the public to look at. Residents were also reminded by some of the Board Members that in order to stay on top of what is going on in Linda Vista is to come to the monthly meetings of the Linda Vista Planning Committee and to go and voice their concerns at the City Council Meeting also. Mr. Kempton also suggest that a letter be written and sent it to the Dept. of Engineer voicing their concerns.
- Main Presentation and Q&A:
- Since the main speakers, the JPI people were unable to attend, this discussion occurred during public comment.
Tony Kempton - Assistance City Planner - gave by-laws update for the by-laws of Linda Vista Planning Committee. Mr. Kempton stated that they were requested by Council to amend the Community Plan By-Laws of Linda Vista and it was initiated and a resolution draft was prepared and is awaiting the signatures of City Attorney and the change basically was a language change to say that although that committee election is held in March and any person that is not elected during that time be elected at an at-large election, either in March or April, whichever is determined by the Planning Committee and the election of officers during the May meeting, that officers will remain board officers until new officers take over at the end of May, even if they were not voted back onto the board in March or April.
There were also concerns from some board members about too many liquor stores and a foul smell that is coming from a brewer. Speed bumps at Molley St. by UNI to be put to slow down traffic was requested. Block Grant for newsletter - Kendall dePascal.
Officer Elections: Treasurer--Liliani Kaitapu Stiffler, Secretary--Rob Spahitz, Vice-Chair--Michael O'Brien, Chair--Doug Beckham (Gail Cole was also nominated and both did a minute presentation and a vote was conducted and it resulted with Doug Beckham being the new Chair.)
Bob Williams - Report at district 6, $322,500 from Valerie Stallings' office, district 5, community has received $527,122 from Barbara Warden's office, grand total of $985,622 and Mr. Williams recommended for Valerie Stallings and Barbara Warden to be commended for their hard work and generosity to Linda Vista. Election Census Results (from March): Bob Hursh--91.05, Grover Diemert--90.00, Ron Tomcek--89.01, Doug Beckham--88.00
Animal Control - Mike O'Brien - Motion to send a letter from Members of the Board stating strong support for the undergrounding of utilities in the block containing the animal shelter.
Alcohol/Beverages committee was tabled until next month's meeting.
