Nicole Capretz from District 6 announced that the Ban on Alcohol on beaches will go to a vote of the public in March and that
there is a movement to take sewer lines out of the canyons.
Monica Ortiz from Brian Maienschein’s office was present.
Doug Beckham moved that the minutes of the April meeting be approved. Motion passed
Doug Beckham moved and Greg Edwards seconded motion to approve the June 2001 minutes. They were approved after noting that Don
Armitage is no longer a member so his absence need not be noted.
ULRIC/COMSTOCK Street Vacation issues (again). A request to revisit an earlier
approval by the LVCPC by the Tecolote Canyon Citizen’s Advisory Committee was made concerning the property of Charles McManus
owner of property at Ulric and Comstock. He had requested a vacation of the access to the canyon. Mr. Lee Herns from the
City gave us a lesson on what street vacation means. After much discussion Don Ballantyne made a motion to again approve the
whole 50 feet of the access. The vote was a tie at 6 for and 6 against. The Chair then voted against because he thought the
residents needed to take action to protect themselves from a canyon fire. Official vote was 6 for and 7 against the motion.
Doug Beckham moved that the request by Tecolote Canyon Committee be approved as long as Mr. McManus does not incur any extra cost
for surveying etc., namely to provide a 15-foot access to the canyon as requested by the Tecolote Canyon committee.
Ester McNulty seconded motion. Motion passed. The vote was 8 for a fifteen-foot access and 4 against.
Manning Street Sewer Project: The city wants to replace an exposed PVC 12 inch sewer main with a 12-inch steel main along Tecolote Canyon and Manning Street. Ron Tomcek moved to refer the Manning St. repair to the Natural Resources for review to learn if it should be replaced, repaired or moved. Motion was seconded by Doug Beckham. Motion passed.
City of Villages issue: Teresa Millette from City Planning presented maps of where the villages might be located. A concern was expressed that if the City of Villages were implemented there would need to be an increase in density.
Chair Ed Cramer distributed a list of topics pertinent to the issue and asked that each member choose an area that would be of interest to them and then to become knowledgeable about that issue.
Secretary Grover Diemert departed at 9:35 p.m.
