Minutes for Oct 22, 2001
At Bayside Community Center

Meeting was called to order by President Ed Cramer at 7:05 with 82 people in attendance.

Presentation of colors and Pledge of Allegiance was performed by Kearny High School Junior ROTC Color Guard and Clairemont's Madison High School Junior ROTC Color Guard Unit

Roll Call was as follows: Present Don Ballantyne, Wayne Bamford, Doug Beckham, Pat Buckmaster, JoAnn Carini, Gail Cole, Ed Cramer, Grover Diemert, Julie Duenez, Greg Edwards, Jim Horsley, Ester McNulty, Gary Stang, Liliani Stiffler, Excused: Rick Bussell, Roy Hughes, Alfreida Jackson and Ron Tomcek. A quorum was present.

Agenda was advanced: Chief Bejarno spoke about terrorism and priority issues until 7:50.
Then Brian Maienscheim spoke until 8:12. This was his last meeting with us as a representative of a portion of Linda Vista.

Election of Officers to fill a vacant position on the committee: Donald Lee Wetzel was nominated by Gail Cole, Seconded by Doug Beckham to fill the vacant position. All voted in favor of appointing him to the committee.

Nicole Capretz from Donna Frye's office made her report, as did Caridad Sanchez from US Representative Susan Davis.

Cecilia Williams reported on the SDGE project on Gaines Street. The project is moving through city channels.

Ron Thurlow from the City of San Diego made a presentation concerning need for a temporary shelter for the homeless. Since the issue was not on the agenda there was no official action taken on his request.

Riley Street Waiver: Bob Ramsey at Riley Street requested a map waiver on his three units under construction at 5940-5944 Riley Street at Goshen that would change is development from an apartment complex to a condominium.
Don Ballatyn made a motion to approve his request; Grover Diemert seconded the motion. The motion passed 11 in favor with 3 abstentions.

Treasurer's report: The total collected for the 911 fund last meeting was $225.00. Current balance is $369.28 in bank and $31.30 collected today.

Donna Frye will be at Bayside from 2-4 every third Friday of the month.

Gary Stang presented is Operation USA Support Mail Project. It is a letter writing project of servicemen and women involved in current war on terrorism effort.

Mike O'Brien made the COPACT Report.

Grover asked if the committee would rather meet at Bayside than the Library. No decision was made.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
