Chair Ed Cramer called meeting to order at 7:05.
Kearny High School's JR. ROTC Color Guard Unit presented colors
Roll was taken: Liliani Stiffler was absent, Greg Edwards and Ron Tomcek were excused. A quorum was declared. Thirty people were in attendance.
Rich Bussell, moved that Alfrieda Jackson be elected as a lifetime honorary member of the committee. Doug Beckham seconded the motion. All voted in favor of motion.
Kevin Smith from Council District 6 provided us with the dates of the City's budget hearings. Final budget will be presented at the June 13, 2003 from 12 - 2 PM.
Doug Beckham made a motion that the Planning Committee support Donna Frye's proposal that taking funds from the Convention and Visitors Bureau budget fund Parks and Rec. shortfall projected for next budget year. Rich Bussell seconded the motion. Don Wetzel asked "that Park and Rec. budget not be cut as a friendly amendment. The Amendment was accepted and motion passed with one opposed.
Lowell Waxman from the Library reported that Library hours may be cut from 62 hrs. a week to 48 hrs.
Xiongh Thao reported that there have recently been two accidents at 2424 Crandall Drive. The traffic committee will review the area and make recommendations to the Planning Comm.
Wayne Bamford conducted election of Officers. Ed Cramer was re-elected as Chair. Don Wetzel was re-elected as Vice Chair. Liliani Stiffler was elected as Secretary and Gail Cole as Treasurer.
Sue Blackman, Sr. Public Information Officer from Water and Wastewater Dept. provided a progress report on Sewer Job 743. Construction will begin in January 2004 and take 8 months to complete.
Gaines Street - Fresno Villas: Report from the Zoning sub committee was made. Rick Bussel moved that the project be approved with the stipulation that the setback issue be resolved with the City planning Dept. Doug Beckham seconded the motion. Motion passed with no opposition.
Traffic Comm. Chair Doug Beckham that the Planning Committee approve the request of residents on the 5600 and 5700 block of Gaines Street that no truck traffic be allowed. All approved the report of the committee.
SDG&E Property Improvement Plan: Patrick O'Neill from Sempra Energy reported on the company's plans to landscape the property at 5545 Gaines Street. There was much discussion on need to limit truck traffic into the lot on weekends and during early morning hours.
Cecilia Williams reported that the meeting to update the General Plan for the City of Villages project would be on June 26, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Balboa Park Club.
Minutes of March and April meetings were approved with various spelling errors. Motion to approve was made by Roy Hughes and seconded by Grover Diemert.
Motion passed with no opposition. Meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.
