Linda Vista Community Planning Committee
Monday June 23, 2003
Don Wetzel, Vice Chair called meeting to order at 7:06 pm. with 20 people present. El Cajon Calvary Chapel Boy Scout Troop #318 led by Scout Master Larry Robles conducted presentation of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance
Grover Diemert, Temp Sec, conducted Roll Call. Don Ballantyn, Ed Cramer, Greg Edwards, Ester McNulty, Gary Stang and Sandy Duncan were excused. Lilliani Stiffler and Janice Richman were absent. A quorum was declared.
Election of officers for the Landscape Maintenance District was placed on the agenda by a motion by Ron Tomcek, seconded by Rick Bussel. There was no dissent.
Seth Litchney from Mayor's office made some comments, as did Kevin Smith from District 6 Council Office. Next Council day for Donna Frye will be July 11 at Bayside from 12- 2 pm. He also passed out the CDBG allocations for Linda Vista and Council District 6.
Deborah Borders reported on police activities and efforts to control graffiti.
Cecilia Williams from Planning Dept. reported that Linda Vista is on the short list for the Pilot Village for City of Villages. She was asked to research the approved use for the San Diego Gas & Electric lot on Gaines Street.
Pam Grey from USD invited the Planning Committee to USD to tour the Science Center and to have it's meeting at USD. Tour will be at 5:30 and Planning Committee meeting will be at 7 pm at Joan Kroc Peace and Justice Center
Election to Landscape Maintenance District. Ron Tomcek, Janice Richmond, Wayne Bamford were nominated. The vote was taken and they were elected.
The rest of the meeting was dedicated committee reports.
Traffic Committee – Doug Beckham talked about the racing issue on Crandel Street.
Code Compliance Comm. – Jo Ann Carini reported that they picked up 48 tons of trash on a recent clean up around Eddie's market. There was discussion on issue of do we want to keep a proactive code enforcement policy and staff in Linda Vista.
Humane Society building will be complete by September. Silver Terrace Park is moving forward
North Bay – Gail Cole presented a list projects for Sports Arena area.
Tecolote Canyon – Rob Spahitz reported on a $150,000 short fall for the remodeling of the nature center. They are looking for other funds and may do project in phases.
Minutes of May meeting were approved with the a correction that the there be no truck traffic on the 5600 block of Loretta, Riley and Gaines Street in the Traffic Report.
Doug Beckham made motion with a second by Rick Bussel to approve minutes. Motion passed.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
