Minutes of the Linda Vista Community Planning Committee July 24, 2006
Chair, Ed Cramer called meeting to order at 6:05 pm at the Linda Vista Public Library
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chair Cramer
Roll Call: all present except the following: Roy Hughes, Ester McNulty, Leo Jackson, Rob Spahitz, Xiongh Thao, and Kathleen Morgen. 29 people attended the meeting.
Officer Michael Schaldach reported that crime statistics can be found at arjis.net. He received many comments on the increased gang activity in Linda Vista
Pari Sanati from Donna Frye's office distributed Frye Lights
Kirsten Clemons reported on activities of state rep. Lori Saldana. There will be a Linda Vista clean up on August 19 from 9 - 11 am
Marlon Pangilinan, city planner reported that the Mesa College Drive issue has been put on a continuance by the City Planning Commission until Aug 31
The president of Mesa College, Dr. Cepada was introduced. She made a report on Mesa and its increase in funding for student activities such as classes etc.
Main presentation: Hyatt Street Project at 7270 Hyatt Street, Project 93632.
Don Ballantyne made a motion to support the application to waive the requirements of a Tentative map to create 8 residential condominium units under construction and waiver for under grounding overhead utilities on a 0.292 acre site at 7270 Hyatt Street in the RM2-5 zone within the Linda Vista Community plan as long as it fulfills all the requirements of the City Planning Dept. Doug Beckham seconded the motion. 9 voted in favor and 2 opposed the motion.
Motion to approve the minutes with the following changes: Astor Vista should be Astro Vista apartments and LAMD should be LMAD.
Motion passed
Chair reported on his presentation to the San Diego Planning Commission on the proposed parking structure at Mesa College. He provided copies of his testimony. He has asked for copies of the Mesa College Master Plan for members of the committee. They will be distributed on July 25 at LV PC agenda meeting at 6 pm
The committee agreed to dialogue with Mesa College on the Master Plan and its impact on Linda Vista and surrounding neighborhoods.
Four committees were suggested Need Committee - membership from Linda Vista, Gale Cole, Grover Diemert, Margarita Castro, and Ron Tomcek and from the community at large, John Lavor, johnlavor @ aol.com , Dixie Wilson at dixiex1 @ netzero.net and Wayne Bamford
Location Committee - Doug Beckham, John Lavor, Dixie Wilson, Ron Tomcek, Wayne Bamford and Grover Diemert
Finance Committee - Doug Beckham, Wayne Bamford, John Lavor and Dixie Wilson
Environment Impact committee - Doug Beckham, Grover Diemert, Wayne Bamford, Ron Tomcek, John Lavor, and Dixie Wilson.
The committees will need to meet soon with Mesa staff to bring recommendations to the next planning committee meeting in August.
Wm Lyons project;
Wm Lyons Homes has offered to take members on a tour of their projects to assist the membership in their understanding of their project at the University of San Diego High School site
Gail Cole volunteered to serve on the Open Space Canyon Advisory Committee as the official rep from the planning commission.
Jo-Ann Carini requested that she be reimbursed for expenses incurred in maintaining the corner lot on Linda Vista Road and Ulric Street from planning committee funds. Ron Tomcek made a motion to reimburse Jo-Ann Carini for such expenses with the presentations of receipts. Gail Cole seconded the motion. Motion passed with no dissent.
